Limoncello

Sunlit and Sharp

Limoncello is a yellow cherry tomato with a distinctive shape and a flavour that leans brighter than most. The fruits are small and oval, sitting somewhere between a cherry and a saladette, and ripen from lime green to a clear, saturated golden yellow.

This is an indeterminate tomato that grows steadily and crops over a long period under glass. The plants set generous trusses, and the fruits hold their shape well thanks to a relatively firm skin and solid flesh. That structure makes them easy to handle and useful across the kitchen, rather than just decorative.

When I grew these for the first time, they proved more productive than expected and continued fruiting well into late September. Flavour improves noticeably as the fruits reach full colour; at that point the sweetness comes through, balanced by a clean, lightly citrus note rather than sharp acidity.

Limoncello performs best in a greenhouse or polytunnel, where warmth and consistency allow both yield and flavour to develop properly. It’s a variety that works particularly well alongside darker, more aromatic tomatoes in mixed salads, where its brightness provides contrast rather than competition.

This is a tomato grown for clarity of flavour and long-season reliability, rather than size or spectacle.
