How to Grow
Great Chillies

Chilli and tomato plants grown by experts, the difference is experience.

World of Chillies is a UK grower specialising in chilli plants for home cultivation. We raise and send out plug plants and offer seeds across clear groups — superhots, classic varieties, cooks’ chillies and compact types suited to windowsills — alongside tomatoes. Everything is chosen for how it actually performs in UK conditions rather than ideal ones on the back of a packet.

Alongside this, I keep a working library of articles — features, practical guides and a regular Chilli of the Week — building a clearer picture of how different varieties behave over a full British season. There are also step-by-step grow guides, covering the process from seed through to harvest.

I’m Sarah Hunt, and it began more than twenty years ago after a completely waterlogged Manchester allotment season that produced almost nothing but a lasting curiosity about how these plants behave here. Since then I’ve grown them year after year, gradually settling on varieties and timings that genuinely work.

Each order goes out with my 28-page guide, How to Grow Chillies & Tomatoes, so you’re not left guessing what happens next. The aim isn’t simply to send seeds or young plants, but to give you a realistic chance of picking your own fruit a few months later.

Hi, my plug plants arrived a week ago, and I have to say they were in the best condition I’ve seen from any supplier. My wife was amazed they even fit in the container! They’ve transplanted perfectly and are growing vigorously a week later. I also appreciate the fertiliser and booklet. My chilli plants and Thai basil arrived yesterday, again in perfect condition—better than any I’ve received in years. Just wanted to share some positive feedback!

Thank you! It’s late April, and I already have nodes sprouting. I’ve been growing chillies for 20 years, and I’ve never seen plants grow this quickly. I’m using Chilli Focus and keeping them in the conservatory—can’t wait to see how big they’ll get by late summer! There’s going to be some monster super-hot pods. Thanks, World of Chillies!

I'm not sure how many compliments you get, but I had to comment on the sheer quality of this year's plants. They were something special from the moment I received them. I've been buying from you for a decade, and this year's harvest is outstanding! I got nearly a kilo of chillies from a single Kashmiri Mirch plant, and the Piri-piri, Cayenne, Serrano, and De Arbol are all absolutely laden. This crop even swept first prizes at the Penistone agricultural show. If you've done something different this year, keep doing it!

After receiving my two orders, I must congratulate you and your team for the first-class service and product this year. I buy many plant plugs online, and their quality often disappoints, unlike yours. Perhaps you should teach the larger companies how to do it. This is the first time I’ve ordered 'plants' rather than 'plugs' after years of growing chillies from your plugs, and I’m not disappointed. They’re healthy, strong, and growing well after potting. I’ll definitely use you again next year and recommend you to my gardening and chilli-growing friends. Well done!

This year has been amazing! The plants I bought from you are nearly breaking under the weight of the fruit, especially the ones that usually struggle. The Purple Jalapeno, Bishops Crown, Madre Vieja, Scotch Bonnet, and more have been particularly successful. Even the slower ones like Pimenta de Neyde are producing now. Just wanted to let you know – hope it’s been a great year for you too!
