A classic striped tomato with real flavour.
Tigerella is one of those tomatoes that earns its place quietly. It looks dramatic — red fruit with distinct orange striping — but it isn’t grown for novelty alone.
This is a reliable, mid-season cordon tomato with a proper balance of sweetness and acidity, the sort that works just as well eaten warm from the vine as it does sliced on a plate.
The flavour is clean and bright rather than sugary, which is why Tigerella has stayed popular with growers who actually cook with their tomatoes. It’s particularly good where you want acidity to cut through — salads, sandwiches, simple sauces — without overwhelming everything else.
Plants are vigorous and productive, setting long trusses of medium-sized fruit. The striping becomes more pronounced as the tomatoes ripen, especially in good light, and the skins are reasonably robust without being tough.
I grow Tigerella because it does exactly what it promises. It crops well, looks distinctive without being gimmicky, and tastes like a tomato should.

▶Species:Solanum lycopersicum. A classic indeterminate tomato grown for both fresh eating and light cooking.
▶Growth Habit: Tall, vining cordon plants that require staking and regular side-shoot removal. Vigorous but well-behaved once trained.
▶Outdoor Reliability: Good in warm, sheltered positions. Performs reliably in most UK summers, with best results under cover or against a sunny wall.
▶Fruit Appearance: Medium-sized round tomatoes with distinctive red skin and orange-yellow striping. Striping becomes more pronounced as fruit ripens.
▶Flavour Profile: Bright and well-balanced, with a noticeable acidity that keeps the flavour fresh rather than overly sweet.
▶Versatility: Well suited to salads, sandwiches, and fresh use. Also works well in quick sauces where a clean, lively tomato flavour is wanted.
▶Productivity: High. Plants set long trusses and crop steadily through the season under good light and regular feeding.
▶Growing Conditions: Prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained compost. Benefits from consistent watering and regular feeding once flowering begins.
